3rd time really was the charm in this case. I got the 20 this time. It went somewhat easily, but still I didn't even have a chance of making the 21st pullup.. the wall hits pretty fast and hard when you reach it.
So I got from 8 pullups to 20 in 10 training weeks, actually it took me longer, but I didn't follow the program too carefully. Totaling 1143 pullups during all the workouts and max tests.
I suspect that if I hadn't gotten sick in the beginning of the program I probably would've achieved 20 in 8 training weeks. This training program really works well I have to say!
W5 D1: 6 6 7 7 8 9 11
D2: 12 10 12 10 12
D3: 10 11 12 13 14(-1)
W6 D1: 7 7 8 8 9 10 12
D2: 11 12 13 14 14(-1)
D3: 15 13 12 10 17(max)
I'm satisfied with my results.. couple days fell a pullup or two short from the schedule, but both were progressive sets and other ppl have had problem with those too.
Now a few days rest and hopefully third time is the charm and I can squeeze the 20 pullups this time.
Result: 18 pullups
I was hoping for 16-17.. 18 is fine by me too though. So I guess it's one more try from week 5 onwards.. this time going for column 3 and now I'm really hopeful that I might actually get that 20 at the end of week6. We'll see.
D1: 6-6-7-7-8-9-11, D2: 10-11-12-13-14, D3: 14-12-11-9-max
Managed to do all days with a bit longer rest times. On D3 max I got 14 pullups.. so the total for D3 this time is 60.. on the first try on W3 day3 I got the total of 50. Some improvement in just 2 weeks.
So it's again time for "final" test, I have no idea what kind of result to expect.. other than my max should now be more than 15.
Weeks sets: D1 5-5-6-6-7-8-9, D2 10-8-10-8-10, D3 7-8-9-11-12
After W6 I moved back to week 5, column 2 this time. The first 2 days I could manage, but on D3 I couldn't do the last 12.. managed only 10 and then did 2 negatives.
I got 15 as a result, and I must say, that's a whole lot better than I would've imagined when I started this challenge. My main objective was to do a new personal all time record.
As far as I can remember my previous record before the challenge was 12 in my teens over 10 years ago.. so I accomplished my goal nicely.
Improvement has been so good that I won't stop here. I'll go back to week 5, column 2 this time. Still aiming for that 20.
13-11-9-7-10(max), 50 pullups in this workout!
Well it seems I can do atleast 13 consecutive pullups on a good day.
Last max test in couple days. I'm aiming for 14-15 pullups there.. and probably continue the program from week 5 as suggested in the program.
Todays sets were: 8-9-10-11-12
I did: 8-9-10-11-10+(-2)
I failed to do the last set, only got 10 on it and finished the last two reps as negatives..
It will be interesting to see if I can do the first set of 13 in the next workout.. considering my last max was 10 pullups after week 3.
5-5-6-6-7-8-9 => 46
3 mins of rest before the last set, and still the last two reps were really hard ones.
5-6-8-9-10 => 38
Week 5 finished!
